The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial, with Tom as Lt Willis Keith, is released for streaming today on Paramount + / Showtime. The film will also be screened on linear TV Sunday 8th October.

The great William Friedkin’s final credit will be on this weekend’s excellent adaptation of “The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial,” a Showtime/Paramount+ film that might at first seem slight for the man who gave the world “The Exorcist” and “The French Connection,” but this is a deceptively brilliant piece of work, a reminder of the refined, undeniable abilities of its creator. Roger Ebert

In “The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial,” Friedkin holds you rapt with the nimbleness of his camera placement (the sharp cinematography is by Michael Grady), the crispness of Darrin Navarro’s editing and, above all, the initially stiff but ultimately spellbinding rhetorical force of the actors. They deliver the text with immaculate polish; even Gabe Kessler, as a petty officer who nervously takes the stand, seems to have nailed every stutter. More assured in their diction are a series of witnesses (Lewis Pullman, Tom Riley, Elizabeth Anweis, Jay Duplass) brought in to speak to Queeg’s state of mind, establishing a tension between those required to serve under him aboard ship and those tasked with subjecting him to psychological tests after the fact. There are lots of good reviews for the film, though sadly most are behind a paywall. I can't yet see The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial on Paramount + UK. Hopefully oit will be added soon.
