Cake FX: audition sketch for FX and Hulu

  • Alt

Here is a lovely 2021 treat for fans of Tom Riley and comedy, especially as we wait for more news about HBO's The Nevers. Tom Riley and Nick Kocher shared a hilarious comedy sketch video on Instagram. Written by Nick Kocher for Cake FX, a comedy series shown on the FX channel and Hulu, Tom can be seen performing in a nightmare audition scene. The websites for Cake on FX and Hulu are not accessible outside the US unfortunately, so I am not sure when Tom's scene will be broadcast.

2020 is nearing its sorry end, and news, tit-bits and photos for fans of Tom Riley have been in short supply thanks to the pandemic.

While the news that Joss Whedon left his creation The Nevers for HBO was incredibly sad, at least the series finally finished filming, and we can look forward to seeing Tom as Augustus Bidlow on our screens again in 2021. US fans have an extra treat now that the fantastic Starfish the film is available to view online, and Tom's directorial debut The Toll Road is also available to watch online .

So, HBO drama series The Nevers is currently in post production (sadly without creator and showrunner Joss Whedon), and is expected to be broadcast on HBO and HBO Max summer 2021. We had our first fantastic peek at the new series last week in HBO's preview video, but will have to wait a bit longer before we get a glimpse of Tom Riley as Augustus Bidlow. In the mean time, another couple of tit-bits have appeared online to keep us going.

The Nevers: Joss Whedon leaves the show

  • Alt

Showrunner Joss Whedon announced today via Cinemablend that he is leaving The Nevers. New shows often have a difficult gestation, and The Nevers is no exception, having to navigate 2 pandemic lockdowns in UK in the middle of filming the sci-fi drama series for HBO. All reports from the set of The Nevers confirmed it was a very happy place to work, but clearly very draining for the writer, producer, director and showrunner.
